Bred at Wye College from Omega and is a sister to Herald. It was released in 1996.

Pioneer is a dual-purpose hop that can be used in all hop additions throughout the brewing process.

Specific aroma descriptors of the Pioneer hop include pleasant citrus (lemon and grapefruit) tones and hints of herbal, cedar flavors. Pioneer's bittering characteristics are crisp, refreshing and clean.
