Calypso is a diploid aroma-type hop, originated from a cross between Hopsteiner breeding female 98005 and a Hopsteiner male derived from Nugget and USDA 19058m.
Calypso is a dual-purpose hop that can be used in all hop additions throughout the brewing process.
The Calypso hop has a crisp and fruity aroma. Flavors of apples, pears, stone fruit and lime citrus also are noted.
Some hops just taste better together. We recently analyzed [ 1 ] hundreds of the most popular beers to find which hops are commonly paired together. We found that Mosaic , Citra , Ekuanot & Azacca hops are commonly used alongside the Calypso hop. This is not a complete list, but should give you a good idea of what hops are commonly used together.
